Owen's Big Adventure

Micah and Owen took a quick trip to Texas last week. Micah went to celebrate his brother Mark's upcoming wedding, and to watch his brother Matt compete in a track meet. Owen was SO excited to get on an airplane (even very early in the morning) and fly all the way to TEXAS!!!!

First stop.....Austin.....for the 2010 Track & Field Championships. Matt competed in the discus and hammer throws.
This was Matt's final track meet in college, as he is graduating from SFA in August!
The Langdons
I love this picture of Owen because you can see the Texas State Capital in the background (not to mention my adorable son).
Once the track meet was over, Matt and Micah headed to South Texas to join Mark for a guys weekend, and Owen headed to College Station with his Mimi and Olfa for some grandparent time.
There's not many pictures from the guys weekend together......better to not have any proof, I guess. There was plenty of beer drinking though!
On their drive back to College Station, they made 2 stops to see their grandparents. Micah's Pop was in the hospital at the time. He's better now and back at home.

Owen's trip to the grandparent's house was significant because this was the first time that Owen has spent the night away from both Micah and me (with the exception of the night Adler was born). He was very excited to go for a visit all by himself.....such a big boy! I think it was harder for me than it was for him. Check out all the cool things he got to do while he was there.

Riding in the Langdon Jeep.
Playing with new toys

Driving a golf cart

Playing golf with Papa Fred

Feeding the cattle

Riding in the Prius on the ranch....yup, that's how they do it in Texas.

Jump, jump, jump

Trip to the Children's Museum

with Uncle Brian

Swimming

Reading with Olfa

Visiting Mimi's school

Freebirds.....YUM!
Family dinners

Back to the airport

And this is what Owen looked like at the Reno airport waiting for luggage to arrive.....Texas tired this little boy out!
He had a blast and didn't miss me at all. He's already talking about our next trip to Texas and our cruise, which is coming up very quickly. We can hardly wait!

The First Lady

I attended a Women's Summit in Reno earlier this week and First Lady Michelle Obama was the keynote speaker. What a wonderful opportunity to hear her speak in person. She was just as articulate and dynamic as she is on TV. And no matter what your political beliefs are, there is no denying that she is one amazing woman.

Besides hearing the First Lady speak, there were other topics discussed during this 4 hour Women's Summit including: financial stability, consuming locally grown food, supporting farmers markets, adopting green habits, and even breastfeeding and family friendly policies in the workplace were mentioned (as you can imagine, I was thrilled)!!
I attended with some friends, Michelle and Brenda, along with 1,600 other women in Northern Nevada.

Goodbye Ms. Devoria!

I LOVE Owen's preschool teacher, Ms. Devoria. She is calm, patient, creative and runs an unstructured, freestyle preschool room. And did I mention how calm she is? So, I was beyond disappointed when I found out she was leaving to move to Washington with her family. Sniff, sniff. I was really hoping she would be around for Adler too!

Well last week was her last week as head of the Raccoons room. We spent some time with her at the school, took her to lunch, had a party and even made a scrapbook for her filled with pictures and art from the kids.

Bear Hug for Ms. Devoria!

Last week Owen's school also celebrated Music in May. Each class performed a couple of songs. Here they are singing I'm Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee.

And this was another song where each child was dressed up as an animal.....Owen was a fish!

And here are Owen and Sofia with Ms. Devoria on her last day. I hope the new head teacher is just as good!

Gone Fishin'

Micah is really excited about fishing this summer and already took Owen out last weekend.

Owen was so proud they caught a fish! And they even brought it home for lunch.

Mother's Day

I had a lovely Mother's Day weekend, starting on Friday at a Mother's Day Tea at Owen's school. They had the room nicely decorated and Owen even pulled my chair out for me to sit down. Then all the moms were served tea and cookies and then we were given a gift.

Owen made me this cute picture frame.

Owen has been learning how to button a shirt. Here he is buttoning his friend Harmony's shirt. Look at that concentration.
Micah and Owen gave me this cool bird house for Mother's Day. Owen loves to watch the birds in our garden and was very proud of his work on this.

We went into Reno yesterday and enjoyed some shopping and lunch.

Last night Owen and I had a date! I took him to see the movie How to Train Your Dragon in 3D. It was the best animated movie I've seen in a long time.

On Saturday we went to Orrin's 4th birthday party and watched a bunch of kids get crazy at the gym.
The babies also had fun!

Micah remembered his days as a gymnastics coach.

Beer & Cheese

Last week Adler and I took a trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a National WIC Conference. She has become quite the traveler!

I presented at the conference on our Bring Your Baby to Work program. Adler even entertained the audience while I spoke!

My mom met us in Milwaukee to babysit while I was attending the conference. It was so nice to spend some time with her there and I know Adler enjoyed her Grandma!

Lake Michigan
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but while in Milwaukee we had to try some beer and cheese! For those of you that know my mom well, you'll find this picture hilarious! My mom.....the woman who never drinks:

What a great way to take a nap.
