Owen & Friends

Ryder came over to play a few days ago. They spend 3 days a week together and have become buddies. They really like to wrestle each other.

As you can see, Owen is quite a bit bigger than his friends.....well, Kirby still has him beat but he's catching up fast! We weighed him today and he is about 22 pounds.

It sure was nice having Micah home with us today for Labor Day! We went to a park and relaxed this afternoon.

Chase, Finger Foods, and Ribs

Owen is so much fun these days! He's learned how to play chase and hide & seek! He loves it when we crawl after him and also when we hide from him. He's recently starting eating finger foods. Right now he feeds himself these little puff things.....kind of like cheerios except softer. He loves them and it sure keeps him busy. And the dogs have already learned that Owen drops some of them on the ground.....so anytime Owen eats, the dogs are close by! :o)

We went to the Rib Cook-Off in Reno on Sunday. It's a huge event every Labor Day weekend. Last year we went when I was pregnant and this year we went with a friend who is 8 months pregnant. Amazing how quickly things change......

GET THIS BIB OFF!

We always post really cute, smiley pictures of Owen on our blog. And for the most part, he is a really happy baby. But lately he has decided he HATES wearing a bib at mealtime. These pictures are just too funny.....we snapped them tonight after he ate dinner. Normally he just pulls the bib right off, but he was having trouble tonight (and he was pissed).

Micah's Home!

Micah was in Chicago for a business trip all last week and we really missed him! I had never stayed with Owen by myself for so long, but we made it (although we didn't sleep much because of the teething....Micah lucked out)! On Saturday we went to a baby sign language class, which has really encouraged us to start signing with Owen. We are starting with some basic signs: milk, eat, dog, thank you, please, more, all done, drink, ball, fan (he loves fans), mommy, and daddy. If we are consistent, he could start signing back to us in about 2 months or less. It's so exciting to think he will be able to communicate with us before he can even speak!


This afternoon we went up to South Lake Tahoe to check on Micah's big redevelopment project. Micah has been designing this project for 2 years now and they have just started construction. This is a huge project right across the street from the Heavenly gondola area. Owen loved watching the tractors!

Pearly Whites!

Owen woke up this morning with a tooth (or at least the start of a tooth)!! We've been thinking he has been teething for a while now, and he's been especially fussy at night this past week. Then last night I could see the white tooth just under his gum. And by this morning it had broken through. He cried a lot in his sleep last night, but I gave him teething tablets that seemed to comfort him. Maybe he'll sleep better tonight. I CAN'T BELIEVE MY BABY HAS A TOOTH!!!!

Jessica's Birthday Party

On Saturday we went to Jessica's Birthday Party. She is the daughter of one of Kelly's co-workers and they rented a big blow-up "Jumper" for the kids. Owen had so much fun!

More Random Pictures

Owen has decided he hates to eat anything green.....no peas or green beans! He gets pretty upset if we try to feed these to him. His favorite things to eat are still sweet potatoes, squash, apples, peaches, bananas, and pears. He's eating 3 solid meals a day in addition to nursing every 2-3 hours. He LOVES to eat! Here are some random pictures from the last week.

Kayaking Lake Tahoe

On Sunday we went to Lake Tahoe for some beach/kayaking time. We took turns playing with Owen on the beach and kayaking. Micah got a really good workout because he kayaked with all the rest of us (3 times).

Grandma and Papa Willems

Grandma and Papa Willems (Kelly's mom and stepdad) are here visiting us! Our childcare provider is on vacation so they came to watch Owen for a week. Owen is sure enjoying the extra attention! And we are loving all the meals and help they are giving us! On Saturday we went to Virginia City and to took a train ride around the Comstock (old gold/silver mines). Owen wasn't too thrilled about the train ride; I think he was scared of the loud noise.

Playing Ball

This is how Owen plays ball with Sandy:
First, Owen grabs her ball out of her toy box. Then he tries to eat it (gross). Sandy sees that Owen has her ball and suddenly gives Owen her undivided attention. Then Owen reaches out and hands the ball to Sandy. She delicately takes the ball in her mouth and gets crazy excited! She jumps around, runs down the hall as fast as possible, and lays on her bed with her beloved ball. Owen then crawls as fast as he can down the hallway, into our room, and reaches for the ball in her mouth. She lets him have the ball.....this is amazing because she would NEVER give Micah or Kelly the ball without a huge game of tug-a-war!!!! Then they start the game all over again.

Sicko!

The only thing worse than being sick, is the entire family being sick! We've had a rough few days, but I think we're all on the mend now. Luckily, Micah and I had the worst of it. Owen has had diarrhea, but other than that, is acting normal. We were supposed to be in Asheville, North Carolina this weekend to visit some friends, but decided to cancel our flight Thursday morning. And thank goodness we made the right decision! By Thursday evening, we were in pretty bad shape.

Anyways.....we've been lazy the past few days. Tonight Micah walked out into the back yard and Owen tried to follow him. Too cute!
